Performance Comparison of Five-Level Active Neutral Point Converter Based on Phase Disposition-PWM and Alternate Phase Opposition Disposition-PWM

The work in this paper presents the performance analysis of reduced component count converter which is 5-Level Active Neutral Point Converter (5LANPC). This 5-level has been configured by stacking traditional 3-Level with Flying Capacitor converter. Two types control algorithms were considered and compared to explore 5LANPC. first algorithm was based on Phase-Disposition-Pulse Width Modulation (PD-PWM), while second one Alternate Phase Opposition Disposition-Pulse (APOD-PWM). These are used determine required voltage level according state switches selected through a simplified balance algorithm. deals redundant switching states maintain voltages 5LANPC capacitors at specified level. comparison between these two modulation strategies performed simulation MATLAB/Simulink package. Simulation results showed compelling outcomes involving techniques concerning current characteristics, as well equilibrium capacitor voltages. By comparing results, it found that system relatively better using PD-PWM strategy.
